Saturday Night's Alright as CTV Announces the Return of Comedy Inc. and Comedy Now!, June 10

Toronto, ON (June 7, 2006) – Kick back, relax, grab a drink (or two), then settle in for a double-dose of Saturday night hilarity as two original comedies return to CTV with all-new seasons. The star-making stand-up series Comedy Now! and the off-beat sketch series Comedy Inc. anchor CTV’s comedy programming block Saturday nights, beginning June 10. Rounding out the Saturday night line-up is the edgy, scripted series, Jeff Ltd., returning to the CTV schedule with four new episodes and rolling into rebroadcasts of the series’ inaugural season. All three series have been picked-up for the 2006/2007 Season.

Comedy Now! has become a TV calling card for comedic success. It has helped pave the way for numerous Canadian writer/comedians including Brent Butt, Jeremy Hotz, Roman Danylo, Nikki Payne, Shaun Majumder, Seán Cullen, Gavin Crawford, Brigitte Gall, and Elvira Kurt. Currently in its ninth season, Comedy Now! has featured more than 100 comics over the years, won numerous accolades including 17 international awards and several Performance Geminis. It has been picked-up by international markets, including U.S. cable network Comedy Central. This season's line-up of all-Canadian laughs features comics James Cunningham, Todd Allen, Matt Billon, Graham Clark, Greg Cochrane, Jon Dore, Don Kelly, Derick Lengwenus, Jean Paul, Paul Sveen, Kristeen Von Hagen, Ryan Wilner and Jeffery Yu. The 13-part uncensored, no-holds-barred series premieres Saturday, June 10 at 9:30 p.m. ET on CTV (check local listings) and Sunday, June 25 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on The Comedy Network.
Comedy Inc. returns for a third season of edgy sketch, social/political satire and uninhibited physical comedy. The series recently won the prestigious Gold Medal Award for “Best TV Variety Program” at the New York Festivals for a second year in a row and was picked-up by the U.S. cable network Spike TV in April 2005. Thirteen all-new episodes feature outrageous parodies such as “Vlad” - the Russian Dr. Phil, “Late Night With Fatma” – Al Jazeera’s answer to David Letterman, “Plane Jane” – one flight attendant’s solution to airline budget cuts, among others, and favourite returning characters Deepak Chopra, Tantric Sex Guy, Excuse Girl, WFTO-TV News Anchor Ken Shawn and WFTO Weather Girl (Nikki Payne). The nine-member ensemble cast stars “comic’s comic” Roman Danylo (Comedy Now!) and co-stars Second City alumni Aurora Browne (The Gavin Crawford Show) and Jen Goodhue (Comedy Now!), comedians Terry McGurrin (Gutter Ball Alley), Jenn Robertson (To Die For), Winston Spear (Comedy Now!) and Gavin Stephens (Comedy Now!), with Albert Howell (Improv Heaven and Hell) and Ian Sirota (Gutter Ball Alley). Comedian Jay Malone joins the cast as a featured performer.
