Three Comedy Specials Nominated for Gemini Awards

High-energy comedian Pete Zedlacher takes viewers on a wicked ride through his wild imagination when the fifth season of the Gemini-nominated comedy showcase COMEDY NOW! premieres Sunday, October 14 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on The Comedy Network.

The only series of its kind that shines a spotlight on Canada's up-and-coming comedy performers, COMEDY NOW! was recently nominated for a Gemini Award for "Best Individual Performance in a Comedy Program or Series" for an episode from last season featuring Jason Rouse. Also nominated were Glen Foster for "That Canadian Guy" and Jessica Holmes for "Holmes Alone."

In the season premiere, Northern Ontario rocker-dude Pete Zedlacher proves that his small-town sensibilities triumph in a big-city world. Here’s Pete…
On Being Canadian: I’m a proud Canadian through and through….‘till they start paying me the big American dollars. Then screw you, I’m outta here!

On Big City Life: Graffiti’s very different in the big city. It’s all hard-core, gang graffiti. In small towns, graffiti’s a little different. You go up to a urinal and there it is staring right at you: "I had your mother last night." It was a little offensive until somebody else wrote underneath: "Go home dad, you’re drunk."

On Celebrity Audiences: Eric Lindros was sitting front row at my comedy show. "Captain Concussion" himself was sitting right there! I didn’t recognize him at first ‘cause they had a drool bucket set up for him. Poor kid. The guy’s had six concussions in 23 months. Six concussions! That’s one hit away from hosting that hockey show with his brother.
One of the fastest-rising comics in the country, 29 year-old Wawa, Ontario native
Pete Zedlacher mixes "New York cool with inbred Wawa wackiness," says NOW magazine. Zedlacher attended New York’s American Musical and Dramatic Academy where he honed many of his more physical comedy bits. After working exclusively in the New York Theatre district, Pete moved to Toronto where he threw himself into the stand-up comedy circuit with appearances at The Laugh Resort, YUK YUK’s and the Alt.COMedy Lounge.

All-new comedy specials continue on The Comedy Network with John Wing (October 21), WOMEN OF THE NIGHT, hosted by Brigitte Gall and starring Joanna Downey, Nikki Payne, Kate Rigg, Shoshana Sperling and Aurora Browne (October 28), plus Gerry Dee and Darryl Purvis (November 4).

COMEDY NOW! is produced by Hi Guys Five Productions with the participation of the Canadian Television Fund created by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cable industry.
